In the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference match that took place at the Philsports Arena in Pasig on Thursday, October 27, Chery Tiggo overcame adversity to earn the first semis berth by bouncing back from a 1-2 set deficit with an impressive fourth set romp and then holding off UAI-repeated Army’s comebacks in the fifth and deciding set to pound out a 15-12 victory. The match lasted 22-25, 25-18,
Mylene Paat scored 23 points, including four in the fifth set, the last of which was a vicious kill that hit the arm of an Army defender and was out of reach for any Lady Trooper. This kill capped the Chery Tiggo Crossovers’ big comeback after they had lost the extended and tense-filled third set on a Paat mishit.
But the heavy-hitting Chery Tiggo captain was far from being done. She led the attack of the Crossovers in the fourth set and provided the first point for the Lady Troopers after Royse Tubino scored on back-to-back strokes to start the fifth set.
The Crossovers secured their place in the next round with five straight victories, while handing the unfortunate Lady Troopers their fourth straight loss in the league’s season-ending conference run by Sports Vision. Paat also scored the third point to put Chery Tiggo ahead.
The Chery Tiggo Crossovers also toughened up on net defense
Scoring three clutch blocks, including back-to-back stops off Jovelyn Gonzaga and import Laura Condotta that made it 10-6 for Chery Tiggo after Army threatened at 6-7 on a kill by Gonzaga. This came after Army had cut the lead to 6-7 on a kill by Gonzaga.
Still, the Lady Troopers would not give up as Tubino seized command and scored three of Army’s last four points, with the last bringing the team back at 12-14 before Paat soared for another kill that sealed it all up for the league’s maiden pro winners.

Earlier, Creamline was unfazed by Akari’s fast start. They slowed down the Chargers with awesome blocking and superb floor defense in the next two sets, then held sway at the finish in the fourth set to churn out a 23-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-21 victory and zero in on the second spot in the Final Four with a perfect 4-0 record. Akari’s early run was a factor, but it did not deter Creamline.
